Student council

Since starting in 2007 School Council have been involved in a huge variety of activities that have benefited Westbourne Sports College. Students have voted for 18 representatives from Year 7 - 13 to sit on the Council.

Student Council MembersOne of the first things School Council did was to change the uniform. They have since been involved in the provision of new toilet facilities, having the Canteen updated and refurbished, training on lesson observation, the organisation of school events such as Strictly Come Christmas, Summer Lovin' and more recently, Love, Hearts and Rock'n'Roll. Members of the Student Council sit on student interview panels of prospective candidates applying for posts at Westbourne and were pleased to also be asked to take part in the interview procedure for some roles within Suffolk One.

Ten School Council students went to the Sorrell Foundation in London as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme along with other schools from Ipswich. The first visit included discussing what issues were the most important when redesigning their school. This visit also included a trip to the London Eye.

Their most recent ‘project' was related to the Rewards scheme within the school where they helped to launch the ‘Westbourne Dollar'.

New members from Year 7 are invited to join the Council as from May each year; after being voted for by their Form Groups they then address the entire Year Group and votes cast for 4 out of the 8 candidates.
