Proposed changes to the College Day
We wrote to parents on 15th February to explain that, as a college we are proposing to make significant changes in the pattern of our school day from September 2011. Parents and students were invited to comment on the proposals by completing a questionnaire.
We will be holding a meeting where parents can ask questions and raise any issues on Thursday 31st March 2011 at 7:00pm (please note the change of date from the first letter). Detailed below is information from the responses received and the Headteachers recommendations to the Governing Body on each of the questions asked.
1. Proposal to shorten the school lunchtime to 35 minutes
54% overall felt this was too short and 41% felt it was about right. Therefore I recommend we extend the proposed lunchtime from 35 to 40 minutes.
2. Proposal to end the school day 30 minutes earlier
64% overall were in favour of this proposal. Therefore I recommend we maintain the earlier finish but five minutes later due to the extension of lunchtime.
3. Proposal for some lessons to be 100 minutes long
Overall 48% were against, 36% were in favour and 16% were undecided. Therefore I recommend we go forward with the proposal to operate some lessons as 100 minute lessons.
4. Overall view of the proposed changes
Overall 40% were in favour of the complete proposals and 39% were against. Therefore I recommend we go forward with the overall package of changes with the one change to increase the lunchtime from 35 to 40 minutes and end the day at 2:50pm.
WeI look forward to meeting with parents on Thursday 31st March to discuss the proposals in more detail
