Westbourne year 9 football success!
Y9 Boys v Thureston High School (National Cup 2nd Round)
Match Report by Louis Godden & Ben Powley
Date Played: Thursday 7th October 2010
Full Time Result: 3 - 1
Westbourne’s Year 9 team went out looking for their first win in two years against Thurleston High School.
Straight from the start, an eager Thurleston turned in a free kick. The bell had gone and around 20 or 30 Westbourne students came out to show their support. It worked because not soon after, Luke Fayers scored a blinder in the top corner on the counter attack and Westbourne were level.
After the break, Westbourne looked more comfortable and started attacking. After around 15 minutes, Lewis Playford scored and Westbourne were in front. Thurleston got frustrated and kept on the attack and Westbourne looked nervy. Yet with 3 minutes to go, after some dodgy linesman’s decisions had stopped him before, Lewis Playford got his 2nd goal of the game and Westbourne’s 3rd.
Westbourne had won!
Westbourne are now through to the 3rd round of the National Cup, playing Holywells High School away on Tuesday 19th October, kick off 4pm.
Well done to all the team and congratulations to Lewis Playford, for winning Man of the Match.
Westbourne supporters would be most welcome again next week.
