Mrs Tierney

Staff, pupils and governors are saddened by the loss of Mrs Edwina Tierney who died on 17 th April following a
long illness.

Mrs Tierney had taught Modern Foreign Languages at the school since 2001. She was a Year 11 tutor and a
much loved member of the Languages team. Throughout her illness she showed remarkable courage, optimism
and good humour and a determination to continue to help young people for as long as possible. Mrs Tierney
had a passion for languages and was fluent in French and Italian, having lived in both countries. She was also
learning Spanish and had a wealth of knowledge about Art history.

Chloe Jones was a member of her tutor group. She said, "Mrs Tierney was always the positive and motivated teacher you could look up to. She was caring, kind and thoughtful. Many thoughts are with her family."

Miss King, Acting Headteacher said "On behalf of the Westbourne community I would like to pay tribute to Mrs Tierney. She was a valued colleague, teacher and friend and will be missed by all. She will be remembered for her kindness, hard work, dedication and spirit. There are no doubt countless students whose educational experience has been enriched by having Mrs Tierney as a teacher and form tutor and her support to colleagues as union representative has provided support and guidance. Whilst we are saddened by our loss, we are pleased to have been part of Mrs Tierney's life, and for her to have been part of ours.

Our thoughts are with Mrs Tierney's family at this very sad time."
