Working at WSC

Westbourne College is friendly and lively, and a truly great place to work.  I have worked at Westbourne for eight years in a student support role, which enables me to have direct involvement with the students. This is a busy and demanding role and each day presents new and exciting challenges. No day is ever the same or boring, whether it is looking after a pupil who is sick or talking to a student that is distressed or has a problem.

Westbourne works hard to ensure all students feel equal and to combat bullying.

I love my job and at the end of a day feel fulfilled that I may have made a difference in some small way to a student's life and look forward to what the next day may bring.

Westbourne is an extremely rewarding school to work at, there are two main reasons for this.  Firstly the entire staff from senior management to the cleaners are all very supportive and are always willing to go out of their way to help each other. People will talk to each other pull together and work together to achieve the common goal of getting the best out of our students. I have learned so much from some truly inspirational teachers that have been and are still teaching at Westbourne.

The second and main reason is the kids! The students at Westbourne are the best I've ever worked with (I did have some challenging teaching practices at university to compare them with!) They are all individuals but have the same thing in common, they all demand respect; given that respect and treated as individuals by you, you will earn that respect. Once you have got their respect then they will do absolutely anything and everything for you, allowing you to have a massive POSITIVE influence on their life, which if you ask me is what we are here for!

I feel Westbourne is a wonderful place to work and now is the most exciting time to think about joining, on becoming a Sports College a lot of new facilities were introduced with some of the school refurbished and brought into the 21st Century. The school is going from strength to strength and the only way for us to go is up. If you really enjoy your teaching, want what is best for your students and are prepared to put in the work to help them then Westbourne is definitely the school for you!

Every day is different at Westbourne, and that makes life interesting, challenging and enjoyable.

Students come to us  with an incredibly wide range of life experiences, humour, talents and ideas.  The one thing they will all share is the experience of  a caring and supportive school where they have the opportunity to develop both socially and academically.  Teaching and getting to know these young people is very rewarding, as you see them overcome barriers that they may have had and succeed.

Colleagues are approachable, supportive, willing to offer advice and try out something new.  This has proved to be an excellent environment for me to develop professionally and personally.
